If you’ve been keeping up with the other videos and articles on this website, you should have a pretty decent grasp of the basics of picking up women: how to overcome fear of rejection, how to approach and start a conversation, and so on. So now that you’re actually able to go up to a girl and start talking, what do you use to get her interested? The answer is cocky comedy.
A Pick-Up Master’s Weapon of Choice
Cocky comedy is a proven technique of building attraction in women. It is taught by a number of well-known pick up masters, and is an important part of any successful PUA’s arsenal. The idea behind it is to combine arrogance with humor in a way that piques the target female’s interest. In mathematical terms, we could say:
Arrogance + Humor = Cocky Comedy
Let’s take a look at each of these elements in more detail.
Cocky comedy in detail
Arrogance. You probably consider this a negative personality trait, but arrogance can actually be quite beneficial to your game, especially as an ingredient of cocky comedy. When properly used, arrogance displays self-confidence, which, as we already know, is a vital part of the image you’re trying to build. It lets women know not only that you think highly of yourself, and that they should too, but that you don’t think highly enough of them to beg for their attention. Doing so, by use of excessive compliments, gifts, etc., is called supplication, and is a big, giant no-no, as it blows the suave, cocky-funny veneer you’ve been building to shreds. But more on that later; for now, just remember that arrogance, in the right amount, is a good thing.
Humor. Can’t have cocky comedy without the comedy, right? Humor’s place in this equation shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone; getting a girl to laugh is one of the best ways to get her to like you. It defuses tension and inspires feelings of trust and confidence, so learning how to effectively use humor will go a long way toward creating attraction.
Put them together and you get…
Cocky Comedy. This should come across as gentle teasing or ribbing. Jokingly accuse her of being sexually interested in you, or talk about how great you are in a playful manner. Another technique, called negging, is to jokingly make fun of her in some way. These approaches can be combined: e.g. “You’re checking me out, aren’t you? I knew it, you’re so shallow! Nobody’s ever interested in me as a person, damn this gorgeous face!” Sounds goofy, right? She’ll think so too, and she won’t know what hit her.
Why cocky comedy works
The cocky funny approach works because it challenges women to accept jokes at their expense. If they get offended, they risk being perceived as overly sensitive, so they put up with it. Cocky comedy thus raises the social value of both people in an exchange–the guy because his jokes show that he’s in a position to criticize, and the girl because she can laugh off that criticism without taking offense. It also baits the girl into trying to impress you, when she counters your teasing by talking herself up; when being cocky funny, you’re subtly hinting to the girl that you’re the prize, and she’s the one pursuing you. Combined with the individual effects of humor and arrogance, these aspects of cocky comedy make it totally irresistible.
Remember that cocky comedy isn’t a magic bullet–it’s a skill you need to develop.
Points to remember:
1. Find the right balance between arrogance and humor. If you’re afraid to show arrogance, you’ll come across as insecure, while if you’re too arrogant you might get a few drinks in the face. Similarly, too little humor makes you seem bland, while too much turns you into a comedian–and comedians aren’t taken seriously. There’s no universal formula for this, and it may differ from woman to woman, but finding the right balance between arrogance and humor will make your cocky comedy much more effective.
2. Keep a straight face. Don’t laugh at your own jokes, and–more importantly–don’t apologize or say “Just kidding”, even if you think you’ve offended. Doing so lessens the effect of your cocky comedy.
3. Know where to draw the line. Remember, the key is gentle teasing. Don’t make fun of anything the girl might be really sensitive about. You want to create interest, not hurt her feelings.
