Does Drinking Affect My Game?

About 90% of the places you’re going to go to meet women will have alcohol present.  Drinking is a big part of our culture, and it seems especially ingrained in dating.  We usually pick up girls at bars, clubs, or parties.  We meet over drinks.  We buy women drinks (stereotypically, at least; if you’ve been keeping up with your PUA training, you should know not to do this).  Unless you’re using AA to meet women, you’re more likely than not going to be exposed to alcohol.

I’m not trying to be all After School Special here, and warn you never, ever to drink.  I’ll admit, drinking is a lot of fun.  But if you’re serious about picking up women, you really ought to consider how drinking affects your game.

Don’t be an annoying drunk!

A drink or two can help to calm your nerves, and a lot of guys claim that it even improves their chances.  But drinking too much definitely affects your game negatively.  A loud, obnoxious guy, stumbling around, slurring his words–does this sound like the cool, collected image we’ve been preaching at you from the beginning?  Of course not; this is a guy who’s lost all self-control, and is now making a fool out of himself.

Drunkenness is not attractive; in fact, it’s the complete antithesis of attractive.  Remember, girls are turned on by the leadership and confidence.  Your goal is to appear in command in the situation, which is impossible if you can’t even control your legs, the volume of your voice–or the contents of your stomach.

Do not operate heavy machinery–or pick up techniques

We all know that drinking causes a loss of self-control.  That’s why we don’t drink and drive, or drink at work, or at school.  And its the same reason you shouldn’t drink while trying to pick up women.  Only amateur drinkers and full-blown alcoholics think they can do anything better while drinking; the simple fact is that it impairs your judgment and makes it much more difficult to effectively employ your pick up techniques.

I’ve seen a lot of drunk guys who thought they were acting smooth, but were really just acting drunk.  Their innuendos were a little too forward, their doubles-entendres a little too obvious, their cocky-funny jokes a little too close to blatant insults.  Put simply, they weren’t at the top of their game.  Picking up women is a pretty complex process; you have to be able to read them, gauge their reactions, and react accordingly.  There’s a lot of mental work involved here, and if you want to be successful at it, your mind should be fully involved.

So the answer to our question, “Does drinking affect my game?”, is yes–in a bad way.  I’m not advocating that everyone stop drinking completely; alcohol has its time and place, and there’s no reason most people can’t enjoy it responsibly.  But if you’re serious about picking up women, then that’s not the time to get wasted.  Drinking keeps you from taking the reigns of the situation, and that’s what women find attractive in men, not booze-breath.  So keep it to a minimum, especially when you’re just starting out.  Or even better, save it till after you’ve got your game down pat.  Dating is hard enough for new guys as it is; you don’t need to make it more difficult than it is already.
