Cocky comedy is a great tool for attracting women. But its not perfect. Like any tool, it has its limitations.
Don’t worry; most women will have a positive response to your cocky comedy. But there are always going to be a few out there who will provide a challenge. These can roughly be divided into three groups; good guys that we are, we’ll describe all three for you, and tell you how to handle them.
Shy girls
Some girls are going to be too shy to laugh at your jokes. They demurely turn away, cover their mouths with their hands, maybe titter nervously and in perfect ladylike fashion; but whatever they do, they just won’t throw that wall down.
The problem with shy girls isn’t so much their response to your cocky comedy, it’s the fact that you can’t see how they’re responding. Nervousness tends to make people clam up, but don’t let that discourage you. Usually they’ll get more comfortable if you stick around long enough. So keep at it; more often than not, they just take a little longer to warm up. Once they do, your cocky funny attitude will have them all over you, the same as any other girl.
Dumb girls
As we all know too well, there are a lot of stupid people in the world, and they make it hard to tell good jokes sometimes. Some girls just won’t get your cocky comedy. This can be frustrating as hell; you come up with the best, the wittiest, the most sensational one-liner ever, and all you get for a response is, “What? Huh? I don’t get it…” usually while she twirls her hair around her finger, or plays with her bubble gum.
The best way to react is to dumb down your cocky comedy. Use small words, like this. Be a little less subtle than you’re used to. You don’t have to win comedian of the year with this stuff; it’s far more important that she understand you than that you work in that obscure, but hilarious Molière reference. If it goes over her head, it’s not going to work anyway, so don’t be afraid to exchange Le Dîner des Cons for Sesame Street if you have to.
Stuck-up girls
Some girls have a really high opinion of themselves and no sense of humor, especially at their own expense. Really stuck-up girls won’t find anything funny about your cocky comedy; they’ll turn up their nose at every challenging comment. Sometimes they’ll get pretty angry, and might even have a comeback or two of their own ready.
Dealing with stuck-up women requires caution. Once she’s decided she’s going to reject you, you probably don’t have much of a chance of changing her mind, so you’ve got two options: keep up the banter or walk away. If you’ve got the brains to match her, going toe-to-toe with a really arrogant, self-absorbed female–one who even other women probably find intimidating–is a great way to raise your social worth, and really impress other, more available targets. But if she’s really got an edge on you, there’s no shame in bowing out. It’s not worth ruining the rest of your night over one cold fish.
Dating is full of surprises, but you can prepare for most of them. If you run into a girl who doesn’t respond well to cocky comedy, the tips above will serve you well. And if they don’t–which isn’t impossible–just move on; life is a self-service buffet, and there’s plenty of fresh meat out there.
